Psychotherapy Counselling and Coaching
With over 25 years of experience, I provide personalised therapy focusing on helping people in moving forward in times of challenge and change.
Ken specialises in working with adolescents, young people and adults, addressing concerns such as work-related stress, the ageing process, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and the search for personal direction and meaning. He offers sessions both in person and online and currently sees self-paying clients only.
Born in Plymouth, Ken Palmer initially pursued his passion for astronomy and science before shifting his focus to the Arts. After graduating from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Drama and Theatre Arts, he co-founded a theatre company in the Midlands, where he directed, wrote, and performed in numerous productions. In the 1980s, he relocated to Oxford, where he ran a wine bar and restaurant.
Following postgraduate studies at Oxford University, Ken has balanced his therapy practice with roles in secondary schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), and higher education. His work has included key pastoral and curriculum responsibilities, as well as teaching Drama and English. He has directed more than 50 plays and musicals, and continues to be active in the arts as Course Director at the BSA Drama School for young people in Oxford. For several years, Ken also contributed a regular newspaper column that focused on strategies for living.
I offer personalised CBT sessions to help you identify negative thought patterns and develop strategies to overcome challenges. With a focus on actionable steps, my CBT sessions empower you to make lasting changes in your life.
Using existential techniques, I help you explore the fundamental questions of existence, such as meaning, purpose and freedom, to find greater fulfillment and well-being. It emphasises personal responsbility and the ability to make choices that shape one's life.
I provide convenient and confidential online therapy sessions via secure video platforms. Whether you're unable to attend in-person sessions or prefer the comfort of your own space, my online therapy services ensure you receive support wherever you are.

When depression turned my life upside down, Ken was my anchor. In a time of chaos, he was steady,, patient and endlessly insightful. He didn’t just stick to a script—he adapted, challenged me when I needed it, and gave me space when I didn’t.

I cannot speak highly enough of Mr. Ken Palmer and the incredible support he has provided to my daughter and our family. At a time when she was struggling deeply with anxiety, depression, and self-harming, Ken offered not only expert psychotherapy and coaching but also genuine compassion, care, and unwavering encouragement.

From the very first session, Ken made my daughter feel heard, understood, and safe. His calm and empathetic approach helped her open up in ways I never thought possible, and his guidance gave her the tools and confidence she needed to move forward.

Ken isn’t just a therapist—he’s the kind of person who changes how I think about therapy. What makes him different is his rare ability to truly connect. He doesn’t just listen; he makes you feel understood in a way that’s hard to describe. There’s no rigid rulebook with Ken—just genuine, flexible support that puts you at ease. I’ve worked with other therapists before, but none of them made therapy feel like this. With Ken, sessions weren’t something I dreaded—they became moments I actually looked forward to. Even when talking about difficult things, I never felt judged, only safe.

But what really stays with me is how deeply Ken cares. He’s generous with his time, his wisdom, and his kindness in a way that goes far beyond a job. He’s been more than a therapist—he’s been a guide, an ally, and at times, the only person who made me feel like progress was possible.
